Repeat the lace triangle pattern (Row 2 – 17) until you have the desired amount of triangles. For the black shawl, I made 17 triangles with Drops Alpaca, and the finished shawl on the photos (that will be added shortly) weighs 44 g. The green shawl weighs 66 g and has 21 triangles.
I think you will want to make the shawl at least as wide as your wingspan when you hold out your arms.

SHAWL BODY

Pick up stitches at the base of the triangles. Knit one row. Mark the middle with a SM. Knit in the back of the picked up stitch to get the twosted effect on the pictures.

R1: Knit to the middle of the shawl + 10 st, place a SM, make a SRT (of your preference)
R2: K20, place a SM, SRT
R3: K20, remove SM, K2, place SM, SRT
R4: K22, remove SM, K2, place SM, SRT
R5: K24, remove SM, K2, place SM, SRT
Continue like this, adding 2 stitches at the end of every row.


When there is apx 5 stitches left:
Remove the SM, knit to end of row. Turn.
Knit to SM, remove SM, knit to end of row.
Bind off. Block heavily.

Upprepa spetstriangelmönstret (rad 2-17) tills du har så många trianglar som du vill ha. På den svarta sjalen är det 17 trianglar och med Drops Alpaca vägde den färdiga sjalen 44 gram. Den gröna sjalen väger 66 g och har 21 trianglar.

Du kommer troligen att vilja göra sjalen minst lika bred som din vingbredd, när du håller ut armarna rakt ut från kroppen.

Sjalkropp

Plocka upp maskor längs med basen av trianglarna. Sticka ett varv rätt. Markera mitten med en SM. Om du vill ha den vridna effekt som ses på bilderna, sticka i bakre maskbågen av de upplockade maskorna.

Rad 1: Sticka till mitten av sjalen + 10m, sätt ut en SM, gör en kortvarvsvändning (på det sätt som du föredrar)

Rad 2: 20R, placera en SM, KVV

Rad 3: 20R, ta bort SM, K2, sätt ut SM, KVV

Rad 4: 22R, ta bort SM, K2, sätt ut SM, KVV

Rad 5: 24R, ta bort SM, K2, sätt ut SM, KVV

Fortsätt så här, och öka 2 maskor i slutet av varje varv.

När det är cirka 5 maskor kvar utanför stickmarkören:

Ta bort SM, sticka de 5 m till slutet av varvet. Vänd.

Sticka till SM i den andra änden på sjalen. Ta bort SM, sticka till slutet av varvet.

Maska av. Blocka, dvs. spänn ut ordentligt och låt torka.

The most beautiful shawl ever

So the bits-and-pieces shawl is finished. And it is the most beautiful shawl I have ever made.
It is the west coast islands of Sweden and granite and at the same time an old rag rug.


I simply love it. It is made from really, really chunky and soft yarn, some of it Drops Andes and some Drops Love You and some German yarn I bought a couple of years ago.


And serendipity made it all come out this nice.

Easiest shawl ever

I am continuing my finish up and use what you have project with som sorting of the stash. So I found out that there was some really bulky scrap yarn and I figured it will be enough for a shawl.


I use the easiest shawl pattern ever. I call it The bottom up no fuzz pattern.

CO 4
1: K4
2: K2 INCR1 K2
3: lift1 K1 INCR1 K to end of row
4 and all other: Repeat 3.

This way you just have to remember one thing: Increase in the beginning of each row. And maybe one thing more: Change the yarn on the same side of the shawl. Or use a self striping yarn.


Now, as you can see from the picture, this pattern creates a more defined increase on the right hand side of the shawl no matter which side is out.

If you want to have the exact same increase line on both right and left hand side, you need to do the increases in the beginning and the end of a row and knit the next without any increases.

Personally I find the easy to remember increase in the beginning of each row better.

Pastel shawl finished

The semi-circular pastel shawl is finished. It is for my dear mother-in-law, but here you see it on my youngest (and tallest) daughter. It is very big, and the bee-hive knitting makes it get even bigger when you stretch it.


Also the upper edge is K2 P2. Very nice.

Pastel wool shawl – getting there

I decided to go for a knitted edging, K2 P2. That way the bottom of the shawl would be nice and snug.
The shawl is quite semi circular now and looks very nice. I need to add the same kind of edging at the top though.
I have realised that what I have been doing is called beehive knitting. Nice to have a word for it.

Einband shawl

When I was in Iceland I saw some beautiful shawls knitted in Einband wool. They were everywhere. In the yarn shop and in practically every other shop we visited.

Of course I bought some yarn instead of a finished shawl and started knitting right away.

Unfortunately I have so many projects going at the same time, that I had to put it on hold. But today I have finished a cardigan for my DGD E and lo and behold, what did I find at the bottom of the bag?


I use the seagull lace and I will be blocking it pretty hard when I am finished. It is going to be lovely. I really live the Icelandic wool. And the dark red colour.

Pastel wool scarf for MIL

My dear mother in law has a severe back ache, and last week-end at a family reunion she said that the scarf that she already owns is a bit too short and also a bit worn out, and would it be possible that I who knit so many shawls...

You bet.

There's a huge sale on wool at Deisy Design right now. All the wool alpaca qualities I love. So I went there, bought far too much yarn (Drops Lima), and headed off.

Instead of making a triangular shawl I decided to go for a semi circular. Oddly enough, increasing 4 every other row gives a 3/4 circular one. That's maths for you.

Anyhow, I really like the 3/4 design. It will fit snugly around her shoulders and do the trick for the back ache .

Since this is a shawl to keep someone warm, lace wasn't an option. I chose four colours: Lilac (4311) as the most dominant (That's really her colour!) and off-white (0100) as the bottom colour. The pink (3112) and the soft grey (0500) are accent colours.

As you can see, the striping makes the shawl super stretchy.

The bottom colour is almost only seen when you stretch it out.

And the back looks nice too. I really like the way garter stitch looks at the back of a project.

Fair Isle Shawl - in the round IV

Fair Isle shawl – in the round III

First of all, I am sorry that the photos are so dark. But... anyhoo.

So I cut the shawl and used a KnitPicks tunisian chrochet needle with a very long cable (or rather two unified cables) to pick up the stitches. Many, many of them. Then I put knitting needles on the cables.

Here is a close up on the edging so far. It's going to be at least twice as wide. It's two knit, two purl, just as I did for the Kotten blanket.

And at the very bottom, increases. This is fun. It really is great fun to make the edging. Strangely enough.

Fair Isle Shawl – in the round

Following the brilliant idea of Pinneguri I am now knitting a fair isle shawl in the round. This way you avoid the nuisance of color knitting the purl side.  Since I was quite happy with the edging of Kotten's blanket my plan is to make a similar edging on the shawl.

I am knitting a checked pattern, and some stars. But most of the shawl will be checked.

Karin shawl

When I was at Carl Larssongården recently (if you are in Sweden, do visit there) I saw a red shawl with a pompom edging. Very nice. Probably one of Karin Larssons ideas, she was an artist that turned from painting to textile when she married. Lucky us!
When I finished the book The Night Circus, I knew that I had to knit a bright red scarf, and the memory of the visit to the Larsson home the week before came to my mind. I bought some Finullgarn at Strikk, and here I go.

I don't know why my iPhone refuses the color red, but it always come up blurry and messy. But anyhow. you get the idea. I knit the shawl from left to right. I have five balls of yarn and I will use four of them for the shawl, and one for the many, many small pompoms.
