Mönster på svenska längst ned.]

Update 2014-02-25:
Correction in row 10 and 17 in the written pattern. Thank you, Syracuse!

Yarn: Drops Alpaca, 100% Alpaca wool
Weight/length/skein: 50 g = apx. 167 m
Needle size: 6 mm
Hand Wash, max 30°C / Block heavily and dry flat.
Colour: 8903, black; 7238 green

(N.B. If you choose another yarn, then remember to use a needle size that is considerably bigger than recommended. The recommended needles for Drops Alpaca are  2,5 - 3,5 mm, I used 6 mm.)

Abbreviations used: K=knit, P=purl, SSK = slip slip knit, YO = yarn over, SM = stitch marker, SRT = short row turn, st = stitches, BO=bind off, CO=cast on

LACE EDGING

CO 5 stitches.

Row 13: P12

Row 15: P13
Row 16: K1, P1, K1, YO, SSK, YO, SSK, YO, SSK, YO, SSK, YO, K2 (= 14 st)
Row 17: BO10, P4 (=5 st)*
Or see lace chart below.
Repeat Row 2 – 17 (*–*).
Last lace repeat:
Row 17: BO13, P1 (1 st on the needles)
Repeat the lace triangle pattern (Row 2 – 17) until you have the desired amount of triangles. For the black shawl, I made 17 triangles with Drops Alpaca, and the finished shawl on the photos (that will be added shortly) weighs 44 g. The green shawl weighs 66 g and has 21 triangles.
I think you will want to make the shawl at least as wide as your wingspan when you hold out your arms.

SHAWL BODY

Pick up stitches at the base of the triangles. Knit one row. Mark the middle with a SM. Knit in the back of the picked up stitch to get the twosted effect on the pictures.

R1: Knit to the middle of the shawl + 10 st, place a SM, make a SRT (of your preference)
R2: K20, place a SM, SRT
R3: K20, remove SM, K2, place SM, SRT
R4: K22, remove SM, K2, place SM, SRT
R5: K24, remove SM, K2, place SM, SRT
Continue like this, adding 2 stitches at the end of every row.

When there is apx 5 stitches left:
Remove the SM, knit to end of row. Turn.
Knit to SM, remove SM, knit to end of row.
Bind off. Block heavily.

LACE CHART (N.B. Row 1 is not included in the repeat.)

Chart made with http://chartgen.orangellous.com/

Doolittlesjal

Garn: Drops Alpacka, 100% Alpackaull
Vikt & längd/nystan: 50 gram = c:a 167 m
Stickor: 6 mm

Spetskant

Lägg upp 5m.
Rad 1: 5A
*Rad 2: 1R, 1A, 1R, OMSL, 2R (= 6 m)

Rad 16: 1R, 1A, 1R, OMSL, SSK, OMSL, SSK, OMSL, SSK, OMSL, SSK, OMSL, 2R (= 14 m)
Rad 17: AVM9, 5A*
Eller se spetsdiagrammet ovan.

Upprepa rad 2 – 17 (*–*).

Rad 3: 20R, ta bort SM, K2, sätt ut SM, KVV
Rad 4: 22R, ta bort SM, K2, sätt ut SM, KVV
Rad 5: 24R, ta bort SM, K2, sätt ut SM, KVV

Tingestar pattern: Hedda – the luvhjälm

This is Luvhjälmen. Sometimes, with small children, you need to make sure that the knitted hats stays on. At the same time, you would want to look smart with a luva and a nice pompom and all.
This little hat is a combination of that.
You start at the top with six knits in the round. You go on like that for a while, and then you add six every fourth row.
When you are OK with the width, you make four more rows with stripes, and then you leave four stitches on a string of yarn and knit 3 purl 1 on the right side, purl 1, knit 3 on the wrong side for about 11 rows.
Bind off  (always on the right side, bur with purls) and leave the last stitch on the pin. Pick up 11 more stitches on the side of the ribbed part, knit the six stitches on the string, pick up 12 stitches on the other side of the ribbed part. And then go on with 3k 1p for a couple of rows (6–8).

Bind off, like above, and leave the last stitch for the crocheted band. Pick up a new stitch for the band on the other side. Make a small pompom and put it on the top. (Make sure you fasten it well...)

Ta-daaa! The Luvhjälm!

/Maia

PS. I used a yarn in sport weight and needles 4,5. The hat I made had seven increases and it fits a newborn up to three or four months. It is easy to change the size by adding increases and adding to the stitches that are put on the string. Or change to bigger needles and a worsted yarn?

PPS. Here's a link to a more detailed pattern. In Swedish.

Go lean on a trunk... or not?

1000001393

Some of the last times I bought yarn I got brochures tucked down into my plastic bag. Comparing the brochures, it is quite easy to understand which shop I'd rather visit again. The one below. Without hesitation.

Even though the upper brochure has some really nice patterns, for instance the Iceland sweater, I get so annoyed with this way of presenting patterns. What is it with knitting pattern pictures and trees? Just go lean on a trunk and you get a good picture. Or... not!

When I looked at the brochure below I actually got inspired to get yarn for a sweater to my DS. The fisherman's sweater to the very left is lovely. I don't make any promises, but I got inspired. And I will go back to Strikk! It was not at all pricier than the other shop and the yarns are simply gorgeous.
